About Dr Yunus Akhalwaya
Cosmetic dentist, GDC 76806, qualified 1999. I work independently from the Together Dental practice in Braintree, treating private cosmetic cases only.
Twenty-five years, and one thing I got better at
I qualified in 1999 and, like most dentists, spent the early part of my career doing whatever came through the door. Over time the work I found most satisfying was the cosmetic and restorative side, and that is now all I do privately.
Most of the people I see have been putting something off. A chipped front tooth they cover in photographs, teeth that have drifted since childhood braces, a shade they have stopped liking. Often they have had a number quoted somewhere else and want a second opinion.
What I have got better at over twenty-five years is telling people when they do not need treatment. That sounds like a strange thing to advertise, but it is the difference between a dentist you trust and one you do not go back to.
I am registered with the General Dental Council, number 76806, and you can check that on the GDC register. Because I work for myself, you always deal with the person who did the work: if anything ever needs adjusting, you come straight back to me and I put it right.

How I work, and why it is private
UK dentists are usually self-employed. I work on the standard associate model, which means I am an independent practitioner using the premises, chair time and infrastructure at Together Dental in Braintree, and paying them a share of my fees for it. They are where I work, not who I work for.
That matters to you in one practical way: you do not have to register with the practice or leave your current dentist to see me. Keep your check-ups where they are and come to me for the cosmetic work.
Cosmetic cases are also where I do my best work. They are planned properly, without the time pressure of a busy NHS list, and I see the same patient from consultation through to review rather than handing them on.
What I will not do
- Sell you a full smile makeover when two teeth need attention.
- Fit veneers on crowded teeth to avoid the aligners you actually need.
- Whiten teeth over untreated decay or inflamed gums, which hurts and does harm.
- Take on a case that needs an orthodontist or an implant surgeon. I refer instead.
- Quote a figure verbally and change it later. Fixed fees, in writing, every time.
“Excellent as always. Dr Akhalwaya cured my 50 year phobia of dentists, for which I am truly thankful. Would highly recommend.”
Want a second opinion? That is what the consultation is for
Bring the quote you have been given elsewhere if you have one. An honest answer, and no obligation to book anything afterwards.
